ERIS
God of Strife
Last updated: 28/05/2019
Eris the fifth and most distant dwarf planet from the Sun. It was discovered on October 21st, 2003, at the Palomar Observatory. It is the most massive dwarf planet, but second largest after Pluto. At one time people thought that Eris was larger until it was proven wrong. It was also once considered the 10th planet of the Solar System.
Eris is the Greek goddess of discord and strife. This name is fitting because Eris caused debates on whether Pluto is a planet or not. Eris also has its own Moon called Dysnomia. Dysnomia is Eris' daughter in Greek mythology.
Since Eris is the most distant dwarf planet, it takes the longest to orbit. Eris takes 557 Earth years to orbit the Sun once! Eris' distance also causes difficulty in trying to send space probes there.
